Individuals expecting multiple births such as twins or more are set to receive additional weeks of parental leave simultaneously. This change is part of a proposed amendment to the parental leave law currently under review.

The Ministry of Environment has issued a proposal for public consultation regarding several adjustments to the parental leave regulations. Among these changes, parents who adopt will also receive increased leave duration.

Furthermore, the proposal includes extending parental leave when the child is hospitalized. Individuals with temporary placements pending adoption will also be eligible for parental benefits. The temporary placement status will end when the Family Administration grants permission for adoption or a ruling overturns the Family Administration’s decision regarding the adoption.

An equalization of the annual maximum benefit is also proposed. The adjustment percentage for the maximum benefit will be calculated based on the average of the percentage changes in the wage cap and the consumer price index.

The Ministry of Environment notes that provisions for flexible parental leave are not included in this proposal, but work on those aspects will continue, with a new proposal expected after the turn of the year.

The Ministry does not anticipate that these changes will necessitate an increase in contributions to the Parental Leave System.
