User offers to alleviate traffic offenses for money in closed Facebook group in Denmark

A user named ‘Peter’ is offering to alleviate traffic offenses through a closed Facebook group for the sum of 3,500 kroner, particularly targeting those caught in automatic speed checks. He is not alone; multiple users within these groups are buying and selling this illegal service. Another user advertised that they would take a penalty point for 3,000 kroner plus the fine.

Participants in these Facebook groups share that the trick involves obtaining the details of the fine and posing as the vehicle’s driver during the speeding incident, thereby “taking on the punishment.” Accumulating over three penalty points can lead to a conditional suspension of a driver’s license. ‘Peter’ claims he feels no guilt about his actions, describing it as a quick way to earn extra money. He emphasizes that he would only help those who genuinely need it, but he has yet to find a buyer since most inquiries involve more serious offenses, which he is unwilling to assist with.

Furthermore, he has previously sold puff bars—illegal disposable e-cigarettes in Denmark—and acknowledges that various other illegal activities, such as drug dealing, occur in these groups. However, he draws a line at aiding individuals involved in drug activities.

The police have warned against such illegal dealings, regardless of anonymity in closed groups. They stress the importance of reporting any suspicious activities. Vice Police Inspector Simon Hansen from Copenhagen Police advises potential customers to stay away from these offers, underscoring that engaging in such actions is criminal, akin to offering assistance in a public space.
