In the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections in Iceland, Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson and Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir will lead the Independence Party’s lists in Reykjavík. The candidates were presented and approved during a meeting of the party’s district council.

Guðlaugur will head the list for North Reykjavík, accompanied by Diljá Mist Einarsdóttir, a sitting member of parliament, and Brynjar Níelsson, a Supreme Court lawyer. Following them are business professional Hulda Bjarnadóttir in fourth place and behavioral scientist Tryggvi Másson in fifth.

Áslaug Arna leads the list for South Reykjavík, with Hildur Sverrisdóttir, the party’s parliamentary group leader, and Jón Pétur Zimsen, the assistant principal of Réttarholtsskóli, next in line.

The complete lists for both regions reveal a mix of experienced politicians and new faces aiming to represent the Independence Party in the forthcoming election, which is seen as an opportunity for the party to reinforce its position in Icelandic politics.
