Gl. Holtegaard Art Hall in Holte permanently closes due to funding cuts by Rudersdal municipal council

Starting tomorrow, the metropolitan area will have one less museum as the Gl. Holtegaard Art Hall in Holte permanently closes its doors today. Kit Leunbach, the curator and acting artistic director until the closure, expressed disappointment that local politicians failed to save Gl. Holtegaard, labeling the decision as “sad.”

There has been a slight majority in the Rudersdal municipal council against continuing operational funding for the art hall, which ultimately leads to its closure, according to Leunbach.

Last July, a narrow majority of local politicians decided to stop funding Gl. Holtegaard, which has operated in the historic buildings since 1993. The annual operating costs totaled 3.8 million Danish kroner, and with the funding set to expire at the New Year, the budget is now depleted.

Leunbach described the closure as a loss “on several fronts” for the art community, Rudersdal Municipality, and visitors from Sweden, Jutland, and Zealand. She emphasized that they are losing a professionally run art hall that has provided high-quality exhibitions for many years.

It remains unclear what will happen to the renowned architect Lauritz de Thurah’s baroque-inspired estate in Gl. Holte, built in 1756, following the closure.
