Dagur B. Eggertsson will not seek ministerial role if Samfylking party gains government position in Iceland
Dagur B. Eggertsson, the former mayor of Reykjavík and current city council member for the Samfylking party, will not assume a ministerial role if the party gains a position in government. This information was confirmed by Kristrún Frostadóttir, the party’s chairman, in a private message to a supporter, which was later shared in a local Facebook group.
In an interview, Kristrún highlighted Dagur’s considerable experience from his tenure in city council and as mayor but noted that he has chosen to step back into a new role, taking the second spot on the party list. She stated that Dagur himself has made it clear in media interviews that he is not seeking a ministerial position, reflecting strength of character and a willingness to contribute effectively to the parliamentary group, which they hope will be significant.
Kristrún addressed the situation regarding Dagur’s position on the list, asserting that he had initially indicated he would accept the second spot. She emphasized her leadership of the party and the strategic plans they have in place. “Our candidates will act according to this plan; we are just a united group ready to serve,” she remarked.
The political environment ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections appears to be dynamic, with various candidates vying for leading positions within their respective parties amid ongoing discussions about leadership roles.
