Sindri Geir Óskarsson has been confirmed as the lead candidate for the Left-Green Movement in the Northeast constituency for the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024. The announcement was made during the party’s constituency meeting in Reykjadalur, where significant renewal was noted at the top of the list. Both incumbent MPs, Bjarkey Olsen Gunnarsdóttir and Jódís Skúladóttir, will not be seeking re-election.

Sindri, a pastor in Akureyri, has gained attention for his TikTok videos. He is joined on the list by Jóna Björg Hlöðversdóttir, a farmer from Útkinn and former chair of the Young Farmers’ Association, who takes the second position.

The new candidates represent a shift within the party, as they prepare for a critical election period. The Left-Green Movement is aiming to reshape its representation and priorities in the Northeast constituency, focusing on engaging with the community and addressing key issues.

As the political landscape evolves, many are watching to see how this change will influence the upcoming elections and the broader discourse surrounding environmental and social matters in Iceland.
