Icelandic Social Democratic Party announces candidates for 2024 parliamentary elections

The Icelandic Social Democratic Party (Samfylkingin) has announced its candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024. Logi Einarsson, who has served as an MP since 2016 and currently leads the parliamentary group, heads the party’s list in the Northeast constituency. He is followed by Eydís Ásbjörnsdóttir, the principal of the Akureyri Technical College, in second place, and Sæunn Gísladóttir, a researcher at the University of Akureyri, who occupies the third position.

In the Southern Reykjavik constituency, the list is led by Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, also a sitting member of parliament. Following him are Ragna Sigurðardóttir, a doctor and deputy city councilor; Kristján Þórður Snæbjarnarson, the chair of the Electric Union and a former head of the Icelandic Confederation of Labor; and Sigurþóra Steinunn Bergsdóttir, a council member in Seltjarnarnes and the executive director of Bergsins.

The ninth position on the Reykjavik South list is held by Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, the chair of the Afstöðu party. He had previously intended to participate in the Social Democratic Party’s primary elections for the last municipal elections but was declared ineligible due to being on probation.

As the election approaches, party lists are taking shape, highlighting key candidates in various regions of the country.
