Samfylkingin announces parliamentary election candidates in Iceland for 2024

In preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iceland in 2024, the Samfylkingin party has announced its candidates for two key constituencies. Logi Einarsson, the party’s parliamentary group leader and former chairman, is heading the list for the Northwest constituency. He has been serving as a Member of Parliament since 2016. Following him is Eydís Ásbjörnsdóttir, the principal of the Vocational School in Akureyri, in second place, and Sæunn Gísladóttir, a specialist at the University of Akureyri Research Center, in third.

In the South Reykjavík constituency, Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson leads the Samfylkingin list, with prominent candidates including Ragna Sigurðardóttir, a physician and deputy city council member, Kristján Þórður Snæbjarnarson, chairman of the Electricians’ Union and former chairman of the Icelandic Confederation of Labor, and Sigurþóra Steinunn Bergsdóttir, a municipal councilor from Seltjarnarnes and director of Bergurinn. Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, chairman of the Afstöðu party, is in ninth place on this list. He previously intended to participate in the Samfylkingin primaries for the last municipal elections but was disqualified due to being on probation.

The announcement of these candidate lists comes at a pivotal time as the country gears up for critical electoral contests.
