The political party Tjóðveldi has undergone a significant change in leadership. Høgni Hoydal announced on the Degi og viku program that he is stepping down as the party’s chairman.

Hoydal, the former chairman, revealed that he had informed the party about his decision a month ago. “I considered changing my mind, given the turbulence surrounding this issue. I had hoped to step down during a peaceful period within the party, but that did not happen,” he acknowledged.

A new chairman will be elected at Tjóðveldi’s party congress scheduled for November 2. Until then, Sirið Stenberg will serve as the party’s interim leader.

More details on the situation will follow.
