Independence Party ranks fourth in latest Prósent poll ahead of Iceland’s 2024 elections

According to a recent poll by Prósent, the Independence Party stands as the fourth largest party in Iceland, receiving 13.3% of the vote. The poll, conducted from October 18-24, 2024, shows that the Social Democratic Alliance holds the lead with 24.2%, followed by the Centre Party at 16.1%, and the Reform Party with 15.0%.

The People’s Party is reported to receive 11.4%, while the Pirate Party and the Progressive Party both garner 5.8%. Alarmingly, the Left-Green Movement is positioned to likely fall outside of parliamentary representation, attracting only 2.4% of voter support. This is the third time the Left-Greens have seen ratings of just over two percent in a Prósent poll, whereas recent surveys from other organizations indicated support slightly above four percent.

In addition, the Socialist Party received 4.3%, and the newly established Democracy Party, led by Arnar Þór Jónsson, stands at 1.1%.

The survey had a sample size of 2,500 individuals, achieving a response rate of 50%. The results reflect a shifting political landscape as Iceland gears up for its parliamentary elections in 2024, raising questions about the future representation of smaller parties and the dynamics among the larger political groups.
