Pilot whale records deepest dive ever noted in Faroe Islands
A pilot whale, tagged in Fuglafjørður on September 3, has been recorded diving to depths exceeding 1,100 meters. This marks the deepest dive ever noted for a tagged pilot whale, according to the Faroe Islands Marine Research Institute (Havstovan).
The whale is currently located approximately at the 59th parallel south. Over the past week, it has been residing in the waters between the Hatton Bank and Rosemary Bank.
Another pilot whale, tagged in Klaksvík on September 16, has consistently traveled southward but made a turn yesterday at the 50th parallel. Today, this whale has moved 35 nautical miles back north, as reported by Havstovan.
