Foreign tourists will now be required to pay to use the bus services in Tórshavn, a decision approved by the Tórshavn City Council yesterday.

Previously, there had been discussions about charging everyone, including residents outside the capital, but it has been confirmed that this will not apply to them.

Until now, users have not faced any costs for using the bus services, which have been funded entirely by the municipality and, consequently, the taxpayers of Tórshavn. Last year, it cost approximately 36 million Danish kroner to operate the bus service, according to the municipality’s accounts.

Foreign visitors can choose from three types of travel tickets: a 24-hour ticket priced at 100 kroner, a three-day ticket for 200 kroner, or a seven-day ticket for 400 kroner.
