The candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iceland, scheduled for November 30, have been announced for the Southern and Northwestern constituencies by the Social Democratic Party (Samfylkingin). Arna Lára Jónsdóttir, the mayor of Ísafjörður and party secretary, will lead the Northwestern list, while Víðir Reynisson, head of the Civil Protection Department, will head the Southern list.

In the Southern constituency, Ása Berglind Hjálmarsdóttir, a municipal council member from Ölfus and project manager at Harpa, will be in second place, followed by Sverrir Bergmann, a council member from Reykjanesbær and singer, in third. The prominent positions in the Southern list will include Oddný G. Harðardóttir, former party chair and MP, and Margrét Frímannsdóttir, a long-time spokesperson and MP for the party. Oddný, who has served in parliament since 2009, recently announced that she would not seek re-election, having held her position since 2013.

The Northwestern list includes Hannes S. Jónsson, executive director of the Icelandic Basketball Association, in second place, and Jóhanna Ösp Einarsdóttir, a farmer and local leader in Reykhólahreppur, in third. Hannes previously ran for the Independence Party in 2014, drawing attention with his current candidacy for the Social Democratic Party.

Arna Lára has been serving as the party secretary since 2022 and is currently the mayor of Ísafjörður. The honorable mention on the Northwestern list goes to Guðjón S. Brjánsson, a former MP. The full candidate lists for both constituencies have now been released.
