In preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 30, 2024, the Icelandic political party Viðreisn has announced its candidate lists for three constituencies. Jón Gnarr, a former presidential candidate, will be placed second on the list for Reykjavík South. The list will be led by sitting MP Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir.

In addition to Þorbjörg and Jón, the top positions on the Reykjavík South list include Aðalsteinn Leifsson, a former state mediator, and Diljá Ámundadóttir Zoega. Meanwhile, for the other Reykjavík constituency, Reykjavík North, Hanna Katrín Friðriksson will lead the list, followed by mathematician Pawel Bartozek and chief police officer Grímur Grímsson.

Grímur’s candidacy comes as a surprise, having recently decided to run after previously serving as a detective focused on serious crimes. In the South constituency, Guðbrandur Einarsson, another MP, will lead the list, followed by Sandra Sigurðardóttir, a municipal representative from Hveragerði, and Mathias Bragi Ölvisson, president of the student political movement Röskva.

Overall, Viðreisn has now presented candidate lists for four constituencies, having also announced that María Rut Kristinsdóttir, an assistant to the party chair, will lead their list in the Northwest constituency. This announcement marks a significant step as the party prepares for the elections, with heightened interest in the candidates contributing to the political landscape in Iceland.
