Iceland braces for severe weather with strong winds and heavy rainfall this weekend
Weather conditions in Iceland are expected to change significantly over the weekend, with strong winds and precipitation affecting the region. A low-pressure system is currently moving across the country, bringing southeast winds that may reach storm strength, along with substantial rainfall, particularly in the western areas. Yellow weather warnings are in effect until after midday today.
Despite the severe weather in the west, conditions are forecasted to be calmer in the east, with minimal precipitation expected. Winds will shift to the southwest around midday, with speeds ranging from 10 to 18 meters per second, accompanied by rain showers. There is a possibility that some areas may experience sleet.
As the night progresses, the low-pressure system will move to the east, giving way to a much calmer northwesterly airflow, bringing light snow showers in northern regions. The overall temperature is anticipated to drop across many areas. Several yellow weather warnings remain active throughout the country today, but these will be lifted around or shortly after midday.
