A second foreign woman suspected of murder in Kajaani has been released from detention, as determined by the Kainuu District Court. However, she has been placed under a travel ban. The other woman suspected of the crime remains in custody.

The court’s decision came yesterday after both women requested a reevaluation of the reasons for their detention. They sought to be released from investigative custody. Police continue to suspect both women in connection with a murder believed to have occurred during the night of October 7-8 at a private residence in Kajaani. The women were placed in investigative custody as suspects earlier this month.

Authorities suspect that the women jointly killed a man with whom they had a prior acquaintance. A sharp weapon was allegedly used in the act, though the exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Investigating officer, Crime Commissioner Kimmo Tuulenkari, did not provide comments on the progress of the investigation when approached by Yle on Thursday.

Previously, police confirmed that the weapon suspected to have been used in the crime was seized from the scene after the incident. However, details regarding the victim’s exact cause of death remain unconfirmed, as forensic examinations are ongoing. Additionally, police have not commented on any potential motives behind the alleged homicide.
