Mother arrested upon arrival in Denmark after evacuation from Al-Roj camp in Syria

The mother of an eight-year-old boy with Danish citizenship, who has now been evacuated from the Al-Roj camp in Syria, was arrested when their flight landed in Denmark at 10:20 PM last night. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was taken into custody by Danish police upon arrival and is facing charges for violations of multiple terrorism laws.

The evacuation was carried out as planned and was based on an agreement with the Kurdish-led local administration, with assistance from the United States. The child is now under the care of the municipality responsible for him, although it remains unclear which municipality that is.

The mother had traveled to Syria in 2014 to join the Islamic State when she was just 16 years old.
