Yellow weather warning issued for strong winds in Southwest Iceland and the highlands
A yellow weather warning will be in effect in Southwest Iceland and the highlands beginning Friday morning. Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions due to anticipated strong winds.
Warnings for severe winds will be in place for South Iceland, Breiðafjörður, Faxaflói, and the central highlands. In South Iceland, the warning starts at 6:00 AM, anticipating southeast winds of 13 to 20 meters per second, with gusts potentially reaching up to 30 meters per second. Snow is also likely on Hellisheiði, leading to worsening road conditions.
The alert for Faxaflói begins at 7:00 AM, where southeast winds are expected to reach 15 to 23 meters per second. The strongest winds will occur in Kjalarnes and around Hafnarfjall, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 meters per second. Drivers, especially those in vehicles vulnerable to wind, are urged to exercise caution.
These weather warnings will be lifted after noon on Friday.
