A recent survey reveals that a significant majority of Icelanders, specifically 66%, have never participated in sea swimming. While only 1% of respondents engage in this activity regularly, 2% swim in the sea three to eleven times a year, and 4% do so about once or twice annually. Additionally, 27% of participants have tried sea swimming at least once but do not continue the practice.
The survey indicates that sea swimming is slightly more popular in the capital region, though there is no substantial difference in participation rates between genders. Moreover, individuals aged 45 to 54 are more likely to be involved in sea swimming compared to other age groups, while no significant gender differences in popularity were found.
