The newly established Democratic Party has unveiled the top three candidates for each electoral district along with some of its key policy proposals for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections. The party was founded by Arnar Þór Jónsson, who also ran for president in the previous elections.

In its manifesto, the Democratic Party aims to enhance individual freedom and reduce central government control. It emphasizes the importance of permitting citizens to make independent decisions regarding their lives, particularly in the areas of economy, employment, and culture. The party advocates for moderation in government spending and proposes tax reductions to bolster economic freedom and create new opportunities within Iceland’s economy.

The party’s statement also highlights that their candidates are driven to protect public interests against government authority, focusing on restoring self-determination, decentralization of power, and Icelandic sovereignty.

Arnar Þór’s presentation earlier today also featured an introduction to the party’s platform. The Democratic Party’s candidates for the Reykjavik constituencies include Baldur Borgþórsson and Kári Allansson.

As the election approaches, the Democratic Party seeks to position itself as a prominent force advocating for personal freedoms and decentralized governance in Iceland’s political landscape.
