Commuter relocates to Oslo apartment amid ongoing train delays on Drammen Line
Eirik Remo, a frequent train commuter between Asker and Oslo for 15 years, has purchased an apartment in Oslo due to persistent delays and cancellations. He describes his daily experience as increasingly frustrating and stressful, pointing out that the situation has deteriorated over time. This year alone, the Drammen Line has recorded a staggering 2,699 hours of delays.
Remo and his wife plan to reside in their new Oslo apartment during the weekdays, returning to Asker on weekends. He acknowledges that while this solution may not be feasible for everyone, it was essential for them as they no longer felt they could rely on the train service.
Anne Kirkhusmo from Bane Nor attributes the delays to various factors, including severe winter weather, a shortage of train sets, and technical faults with trains and signals. She expressed regret for the service disruptions and noted that there has been significantly increased train traffic, which stresses older infrastructure.
Statistics reveal that by late September, the trains along the Drammen Line had amassed nearly 10 hours of delays daily. Many commuters have voiced their frustrations, highlighting the rising costs and deteriorating service quality.
As a solution to his commuter woes, Remo states that living in Oslo enables him to walk to work, thus eliminating the pain of waiting for unreliable trains. He recognizes that while his new arrangement incurs higher living costs, the trade-off is worth it for the reduction in daily stress. Looking ahead, he remains skeptical about future improvements, noting a lack of trust in promises that have not materialized over the years.
