The Pirkanmaa District Court has determined that a 19-year-old suspected of murder does not need to be detained prior to the trial. The young man, along with another individual of the same age, is accused of a murder that occurred in July in Hervanta, Tampere. A deceased 64-year-old man was found at the scene.

According to reports, one of the suspects has already been released. The regional prosecutor requested that the court order the re-arrest of the accused. The prosecutor argued that a travel ban was insufficient as a preventative measure. Documentation shows that the accused has a Poste Restante address, meaning he collects his mail himself.

DNA evidence was reportedly available only after the release of the suspect. The prosecutor claimed that the accused had other ongoing legal matters and had previously failed to appear at a main hearing. Despite ongoing warrants for his capture, he had not been summoned to address these charges.

The suspect contested the claims and opposed the request for detention, stating he was accessible to both the police and his legal representative. He mentioned that he had simply forgotten to attend one of the sessions. The court found that missing a single court session did not indicate an intention to evade the upcoming trial. Based on this reasoning, the court dismissed the prosecutor’s request to continue detaining the accused. The court also provided its rationale to the media on Wednesday.
