Glenn Solberg appointed advisor at Olympiatoppen effective January 1, 2025
Glenn Solberg will begin a new role as an advisor at Olympiatoppen from January 1, 2025. The former handball player and coach expressed excitement about the opportunity, emphasizing the straightforward nature of his decision to join the Norwegian sports organization.
Solberg has had a notable career, serving as the head coach for the Swedish men’s handball team, considered one of the best in the world. Under his guidance, Sweden secured a silver medal in the World Championship, a bronze in the European Championship, and gold in the 2022 European Championship. However, following the team’s quarterfinal exit at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Solberg stepped down from his coaching position.
His playing career includes winning the European Cup with Drammen Handball Club in 1996 before moving on to play in Germany and Spain, where he added league titles and other championships to his accolades.
Initially, Solberg planned to take time off to consider his next career move but quickly pivoted upon receiving the offer from Olympiatoppen. He clarified that while he had other opportunities, this role fit perfectly with his aspirations.
In his new position, he will focus on various sports, with handball not being one of them, marking a temporary pause in his coaching career in that discipline. Solberg looks forward to working with highly skilled individuals and helping athletes maximize their potential, a task he finds particularly rewarding.
