People’s Party announces candidates for parliamentary elections in Iceland

The People’s Party is set to present its candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections on November 30, showcasing a mix of well-known political figures alongside newcomers. The party leader, Inga Sæland, confirmed the list of lead candidates across all electoral districts.

In Reykjavik South, Inga Sæland will lead the list, while Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, the chairman of the trade union VR, will head the Reykjavik North ballot. Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, deputy leader of the People’s Party, is the candidate for the Southwest district. Other candidates include Ásthildur Lóa Þórsdóttir in the South district and Eyjólfur Ármannsson in the Northwest. Sigurjón Þórðarson, currently a deputy member of parliament, will represent the Northeast district.

Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson’s candidacy is particularly notable as he has previously run for parliament, first in 2009 under the Citizens’ Movement, where he secured the fourth position in the South district. In 2012, he campaigned again with the party Dögun, created through the merger of the Movement, the Citizens’ Movement, and the Liberal Party.

Sigurjón Þórðarson also has a background in politics; he has served as a deputy member since 2023 and was previously a member of parliament for the Liberal Party from 2003 to 2007 in the same district.

The party preparation aims to engage voters with familiar and fresh faces as they approach the 2024 elections.
