Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson confirmed as lead candidate for Left-Green Movement in Iceland’s Southwest constituency
In the lead-up to the 2024 parliamentary elections, Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson has been confirmed as the lead candidate for the Left-Green Movement in the Southwest constituency. This decision comes from the party’s nomination committee and will be presented at an upcoming constituency council meeting.
Eva Dögg Davíðsdóttir, a member of parliament since April, will occupy the second spot on the list, while Paola Cardenas, a lecturer in social work at the University of Iceland and a newcomer to the political scene, will take the third position.
Guðmundur Ingi, who previously served as Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and has been an MP since 2017, initially held the position of Minister of Environment and Natural Resources outside of parliament. Eva joined the parliament earlier this year after the resignation of former Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, who stepped down to run for the presidency.
Paola Cardenas is making her electoral debut and brings a diverse background as a psychologist, former head psychologist at the South Peninsula Health Institution, and project manager for immigrant and youth affairs at the Icelandic Red Cross. She has also authored children’s books and has been the chair of the Immigration Council since 2022.
The formation of party lists is well underway as Iceland gears up for the upcoming elections, which promise to bring both seasoned politicians and fresh faces to the forefront.
