In a recent decision, the Icelandic Naming Committee approved eleven new personal names, including five feminine names, four masculine names, and two gender-neutral names. Notably, none of the applications submitted this time were rejected.
The accepted names are now subject to Icelandic grammatical rules. For instance, the name Mateo will be officially recorded as the variant Mateó, while Aveline will be recorded as Avelín.
Among the approved masculine names are Kaspían, Heiðsteinn, Arslan, and Mateo. The new feminine names consist of Lindey, Kristmey, Oddey, Vorsól, and Aveline. The gender-neutral names include Vestur and Aster.
The Icelandic Naming Committee continues its role in regulating and approving names in accordance with national traditions and language standards.
