Icelanders abroad to vote in parliamentary elections at embassies and consulates starting November 7

Icelanders living abroad will have the opportunity to vote in the parliamentary elections beginning November 7. Voting will take place at Iceland’s embassies, consulates, and main consular offices located in Winnipeg, Þórshöfn, and Nuuk. Eligibility to vote extends to Icelandic citizens who have registered their permanent residence abroad for fewer than 16 years. They must be at least 18 years old on election day and have previously had some form of residency in Iceland. Those who have registered their residence in Iceland maintain their voting rights for 16 years after moving abroad. After this period, individuals must apply for registration on the electoral roll through the National Registry of Iceland.
