EU agrees on fishing quotas for Baltic Sea in 2025
The EU’s Agriculture and Fisheries Council has agreed on the fishing quotas for the Baltic Sea for 2025. According to Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah, the quotas for sprat will significantly increase, and targeted commercial salmon fishing will continue in all Finnish marine areas, including the region between the Archipelago Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia.
The fishing quota for sprat in the Baltic Sea main basin and the Gulf of Finland has been raised by 108 percent. However, the total quota for salmon in the main basin and the Gulf of Bothnia has been reduced by 36 percent to 34,787 fish, with Finland’s share amounting to 8,989 salmon.
