According to Ilkka-Pohjalainen, the Regional State Administrative Agency for Western and Southern Finland has issued several warnings regarding the operations of Validia House in Seinäjoki. Additionally, Valvira is investigating potential connections between the service provider’s operational deficiencies and the deaths of two residents.

Validia’s Seinäjoki unit offers services for individuals with physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and other functional impairments. A report revealed that the regional supervisory agency began monitoring the Seinäjoki Validia House in June 2022 after receiving a complaint. The complaint cited high staff turnover, staffing shortages in shifts, and inadequacies in resident care and support. In 2022, further complaints were filed three times, with one more complaint in the following year.

The agency conducted an oversight visit to the unit in August 2022 and made multiple information requests to Validia. The agency’s conclusion indicated that the quality of services provided at the unit had long-standing and significant deficiencies. Consequently, Validia received several warnings, including one related to inadequate nursing and rehabilitation staff.

The oversight of Seinäjoki Validia House by the Regional State Administrative Agency concluded in February 2024. During this period, two resident fatalities brought attention, prompting an investigation into possible links between the deaths and the service provider’s operational shortcomings. The case has since been transferred to Valvira for further review. Additionally, Ilkka-Pohjalainen has reported that Valvira is also handling a complaint related to the operations of the facility.
