A man in his twenties from Oulu is being brought to court today, charged with homicide in connection to an incident that occurred in early June. According to the prosecutor, the accused shot another man in his twenties at the Kuivasjärvi recreation area in Oulu during the night of June 1. The victim was taken to the hospital following the shooting, but succumbed to his injuries.
The prosecutor is seeking a manslaughter conviction for the accused. Additionally, three other men are charged as accomplices to the homicide. All four defendants have denied any wrongdoing. The trial is set to begin at the Oulu District Court today at 9 AM. The man accused of manslaughter will attend the hearing from custody. Media outlets will be present to cover the proceedings.
The case has gained public attention and has been referred to as the “Oulu bulletproof vest case,” after police previously stated they were searching for light blue bulletproof vests related to the investigation. However, no such vests have been reported found during the preliminary investigation. The police have not disclosed how the vests might be connected to the incident.
During the investigation, conspicuous water searches were conducted at the Holliha harbor in Oulu, lasting several days and involving Defense Force divers. Further updates on the case will follow.
