Dagmar Ýr Stefánsdóttir has been appointed as the new mayor of Múlaþing, taking over from Björn Ingimarsson, who is stepping down after over 14 years in office at the end of the year.

For the past year, Dagmar has served as the managing director of Austurbrú, where she has been involved in various local governance efforts, including as a member of the Fljótsdalshérað municipal council. Previously, she worked as a spokesperson for Alcoa Fjarðaál.

The appointment came after a competitive selection process, with nine candidates initially applying for the position. However, five withdrew their applications following a request for the candidates’ names to be made public.

Múlaþing is located in the eastern part of Iceland, and Dagmar’s experience in local administration and community engagement is expected to bring a positive influence to the region. Her leadership will be crucial as the municipality navigates various ongoing challenges and opportunities in the coming years.
