Authorities have confirmed that the human remains discovered on Kvaløya in late September belong to Ronan Hyacinthe, a 52-year-old French national. Hyacinthe had been reported missing from the harbor in Mefjordvær, Senja, during the summer, with his last confirmed sighting on July 19.

The police are still awaiting a final autopsy report, but preliminary findings suggest no indications of criminal activity. A hiker made the discovery of the remains on September 28 along the shoreline between Buvika and Brensholmen in the Tromsø municipality.

Since the remains were found, the identification team in Tromsø has been working to establish the cause of death and to confirm the identity. Last week, authorities indicated they expected to finalize the identification process within days.

The search and recovery involved the rescue vessel Kaptein Buhre, which aided the police in reaching the discovery site.

The identification team, which includes a pathologist, a forensic technician, and a dentist, is conducting examinations of the remains at the pathology department of the University Hospital of Northern Norway in Tromsø. Their investigations include DNA analysis and dental examinations, cross-referencing the data against databases of missing persons.
