Ida the cat allures tourists with remarkable adventures at Venabygdsfjellet in Norway
Ida the cat has become a local celebrity at Venabygdsfjellet, often accompanying tourists on their hikes. Displays remarkable stamina, she can walk up to 18 kilometers a day and sometimes disappears for one or two days before finding her way back.
Ida arrived at Venabygdsfjellet last year, initially expected to be a barn cat meant to catch mice alongside another cat named Emil. However, she quickly shifted her focus from hunting to exploring the surrounding nature. According to her owner from Venabu Mountain Hotel, tourists passing by the stable would see Ida and she would join them on their outings.
Initially, her adventures took her as far as the local grocery store, one kilometer away, but her journeys grew longer over time. Tourists frequently encounter her on their hikes, and social media posts often highlight sightings of the wandering cat.
In the summer, it was discovered that her hikes were getting longer, leading to her being fitted with a GPS, confirming she could travel up to 18 kilometers in a single day. Her activities also include playful interactions with both tourists and dogs, and she has become somewhat of a mascot for the area.
Ida often visits the local tourist shop, where staff mention tourists regularly ask about the cat following them. As winter approaches, she continues to enchant visitors, embodying the spirit of adventure inherent in the beautiful landscapes of Venabygdsfjellet.
