Amun Abdullahi killed in Afgooye, Somalia, amid ongoing violence
Amun Abdullahi was reportedly killed on Saturday in the city of Afgooye, located northwest of the capital, Mogadishu. She was shot dead by several masked men, although the motive for the murder remains unclear. The region has previously experienced attacks by the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Abdullahi began her career in the early 2000s at Sveriges Radio, where she made headlines with important revelations, including one about Al-Shabaab’s recruitment efforts in suburbs of Stockholm. Throughout her career, she faced numerous threats and incidents of violence. She left her radio position in the early 2010s and moved to Somalia, where she worked on projects aimed at empowering women’s rights.
Abdullahi received several accolades, including the Publicistklubb’s Freedom of Expression Award, and was nominated for the prestigious Gold Shovel Award.
