Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir re-elected leader of Independence Party at Hotel Selfoss in Iceland

Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir, the Minister of Justice, has been re-elected as the leader of the Independence Party in the South Constituency. She was confirmed in this position at a large meeting of the party’s local council held at Hotel Selfoss. The council unanimously decided to implement a ranking for the top six positions on the electoral list, and Guðrún was the sole candidate nominated for the first position.

In addition, Ólafur Adolfsson, a former municipal council member of the party, was also elected as the leader in the Northwest Constituency. Ólafur has previously served as the long-standing leader of the party in the Akranes municipal council and has also managed a pharmacy in the region.

The announcements come ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024. The Independence Party is gearing up for the electoral race, with both Guðrún and Ólafur positioned as key figures in their respective constituencies.
