Fire department responds to smoke incidents in Reykjavík apartment and house

Sunday 20th October 2024 on 02:54 in Iceland

The fire department in the Reykjavík metropolitan area responded this evening to a significant amount of smoke emanating from an apartment on Ljósvallagata. Fortunately, no fire was present. The resident had accidentally fallen asleep while cooking, leaving a pot unattended on the stove. The duty officer confirmed that the individual was safe, but the apartment had to be ventilated due to the smoke. There was no need to transport the resident to the emergency department.

In a separate incident shortly after midnight, firefighters were also dispatched to address a small fire caused by a candle becoming entangled in a decoration inside a house on Grettisgata. The fire was quickly extinguished. Earlier in the evening, the fire department was on full alert due to smoke rising from a chimney at a residence on Mávahlíð, but there was no danger in that situation either.
