Aittakumpu leaves Centre Party to join Finns Party in Oulu
Member of Parliament Pekka Aittakumpu has left the Centre Party to join the Finns Party’s parliamentary group. Aittakumpu announced this decision in a press release, which was also acknowledged on the Finns Party’s social media account.
Aittakumpu, who was first elected in 2019 representing the Oulu electoral district on the Centre Party ticket, serves on the Transport and Communications Committee and is a substitute member of the Social Affairs and Health Committee. Finns Party leader Riikka Purra welcomed Aittakumpu to the party both on social media and during a press event held in Oulu.
In his statement, Aittakumpu expressed that he felt his journey within the Centre Party had become stagnant. He indicated that it had been challenging to advocate for issues he deemed important within that party. Aittakumpu noted that he found more resonance with the Finns Party on matters such as environmental policies, gender ideology, and issues related to the Finnish language, culture, and way of life.
“I appreciate the Finns Party’s courage to address phenomena that undermine Finnish society,” Aittakumpu stated. “I value the bravery to discuss difficult subjects and the injustices that affect people’s everyday lives, which others are reluctant to speak about, but that require solutions.”
