A collision between a tram and a truck occurred on Pirkkolantie in Helsinki. Toni Kannikoski, the on-duty fire chief from the Helsinki City Rescue Department, reported that cleanup operations are still in progress. The department received the alert regarding the accident shortly before 1 p.m. According to Kannikoski, there are no serious injuries resulting from the incident. Ambulance services are on-site checking the individuals involved.
“The speeds were relatively low, but the energy involved is significant, so we must exercise caution,” Kannikoski stated. Currently, a tow truck is on its way to the scene, as the truck has sustained severe damage and cannot be driven.
This accident is reportedly causing disruptions to tram services. HSL announced just before 1 p.m. via messaging service X that the Route 15, which operates between Helsinki’s Itäkeskus and Keilaniemi in Espoo, will be on a detour until approximately 1:30 p.m. Traffic is not running between Oulunkylä station and Hämeenlinnanväylä.
Earlier this week, trams experienced a separate incident when two trams ended up on the same track in Itäkeskus.
