The suspension bridge Julma-Ölkky, located in Hossa National Park in Suomussalmi, has been renovated and is now open for use again. The bridge was closed last May when staff from Metsähallitus’ Nature Services discovered that it was leaning and that the anchor had come loose from the rock.

During the repair, two holes were drilled through the rock, into which a metal bar and a zinc wire were installed to strengthen the bridge’s anchoring. “Hikers can once again safely enjoy the landscapes of Hossa National Park,” Tero Mustonen, the product owner from Metsähallitus’ Nature Services, stated in a press release.

The suspension bridge was completed in 2017 simultaneously with the establishment of Hossa National Park. The 45-meter-long bridge crosses over the Julma-Ölkyn gorge lake and is part of the five-kilometer Ölökyn crossing circular route.
