Strengbergs Habit Factory, a company based in Pietarsaari, Finland, has recently come under scrutiny following legislation passed by the Finnish parliament earlier this month. The new law restricts the flavors of nicotine pouches to mint, menthol, tea, ginger, rosemary, and wood, all of which are produced by the Pietarsaari-based company.

The controversy centers around allegations that Anna-Maja Henriksson, a former leader of the Swedish People’s Party (RKP) and current advisor, was instrumental in presenting the list of permitted flavors. Critics claim that Henriksson’s connection to Pietarsaari influenced the selection process, although Henriksson denies this assertion.

Michael Pettersson, the CEO of Strengbergs Habit Factory, aims to clarify the company’s role in this situation. He contends that many conspiracy theories have emerged around the debate over nicotine pouch flavors and insists that political discussions are unrelated to their business. Pettersson emphasizes that the company is a small startup in Pietarsaari, aiming to revive a 250-year history in the production of nicotine, snuff, and tobacco.

He acknowledges that their proposal for flavors was submitted after the official consultation period had ended, but felt it was important to send it regardless. “Better late than never,” he stated, highlighting their hope that the authorities would consider their submission.

When asked about the selection of flavors produced by his company, Pettersson expressed satisfaction, noting that the approval demonstrates the existence of other flavor options appropriate for adult consumers. He emphasized that Strengbergs used the same opportunities available to others, albeit late in the process.
