The series “Investors” premieres today on Yle TV2, following the year-long journey of four young investors pursuing their passion for investing. One of the participants is 33-year-old Jusa Harju from Seinäjoki, a father of four who has a keen interest in cryptocurrency, a type of digital currency. Most cryptocurrencies operate on open-source technology, with Bitcoin being the most renowned, launched in 2008.

Harju explains that cryptocurrency exchanges function similarly to stock exchanges: you create an account, and then you can buy cryptocurrencies with fiat currency. He first invested in cryptocurrencies five years ago, spending about $10,000. By the following year, his portfolio had more than tripled to $30,000.

“I withdrew some profits for the first time, leaving $20,000 as ‘free money’ remaining in the account,” he shared. Initially driven by a desire to accumulate wealth, his main motivation stems from a genuine interest in investing and technology. Harju believes that cryptocurrencies can resolve real-life issues, such as international money transfers, highlighting their speed compared to traditional banking methods.

Harju discovered the series through social media when director Tommi Hakko sought participants from the cryptocurrency community. After contemplating the decision for a couple of days, he reached out to Hakko and expressed his interest.

While filming, Harju took out a $10,000 loan to invest in cryptocurrency, confident it would pay off. Currently, his crypto portfolio is valued at around $70,000. The five-part documentary, produced by Yle, aims to delve deeper into the emotions surrounding investing and explore the motivations behind it. Harju notes that investing requires patience and sustained effort; one does not become wealthy overnight.
