A Tampere-based startup company, The Storage, specializing in climate technology, has secured one million euros in funding. The investment comes from the Estonian clean technology venture capital firm 2C Ventures and the Finnish venture capital company Superhero Capital.
The Storage is focused on developing energy storage solutions to facilitate the industrial green transition. Their method of thermal energy storage utilizes hot sand, consisting of two straightforward storage silos where sand is moved through distinct charging and discharging units.
“This is primarily proven technology already tested in industry, with a sprinkle of new innovations,” stated Timo Siukkola, CEO of The Storage. The technology enables the use of fossil-free energy, especially in industrial applications. According to the company, industrial heat production accounts for 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
With the new funding, The Storage plans to construct a pilot facility where companies can test the technology for various applications.
