Couple sentenced to prison for prostitution linked to Thai massage businesses in Central Finland
A Finnish-Thai couple has been sentenced to prison terms by the Central Finland District Court for involvement in prostitution activities linked to Thai massage businesses. The court sentenced Natprapar Käyhkö and Jukka Tapani Käyhkö to two years and two months in prison for aggravated pimping and aggravated money laundering. The ruling was unanimous.
The prosecution had sought prison sentences of two and a half to three years for the couple on charges of aggravated pimping. According to the court, the selling of sex was conducted systematically.
The couple operated their prostitution activities out of Thai massage parlors for nearly a decade, until January 2023. The establishments were located in several cities, including Jyväskylä, Mikkeli, Seinäjoki, Joensuu, Kuopio, and Kokkola.
The prosecution noted that the sale of sexual services in conjunction with Thai massages had become a regular practice. For instance, the couple rented out a massage parlor in Jyväskylä to individuals who provided and sold sexual services on the premises.
In addition to the couple, four other individuals involved in the case faced sentences ranging from three to ten months of conditional imprisonment. Their charges included aiding aggravated pimping and aggravated money laundering. One defendant received an eight-month conditional prison sentence for aggravated money laundering, while two others were fined for aiding in prostitution. The fourth defendant was convicted of aggravated pimping and given a ten-month conditional prison sentence.
