Police are currently uncertain if they will be able to interview the 12-year-old girl injured in the school shooting at Viertola anytime soon. According to MTV News, she has now been discharged from the hospital. Marko Särkkä, the head of the investigation, confirmed this to Yle.

“We have received confirmation from the family and permission to disclose this information,” Särkkä stated. The sixth-grade girl was critically injured during the shooting incident that took place in April. However, Särkkä noted that the victim’s medical information is confidential, and police will not provide further details.

The shooting resulted in the death of a sixth-grade boy, while two sixth-grade girls were hospitalized. A sixth-grade boy is suspected of the shooting. Since he is under 15 years old, the case will not progress to prosecution.

“I can confirm that four shots were fired at close range in the classroom,” Särkkä added. According to the police, the firearm used in the incident belongs to a close relative of the suspect. The investigation has revealed that the suspect has previously fired the weapon a few times under the supervision of a relative. Särkkä mentioned that the investigation concerning the firearms offense by the relative is currently under review by the prosecutor.

Further updates on the investigation into the Viertola school shooting will be provided next week. “More details will be available then,” Särkkä remarked.
