Six children reported working for LM Multiservices in Southern Jutland asbestos case

Six children aged 12 to 16 have been reported to have worked for LM Multiservices, a company accused of hiring minors for illegal labor involving hazardous asbestos materials. Odsherred’s mayor, Karina Vincentz, revealed that at least three of the children were involved in handling the dangerous material during the demolition of a roof on a farm in Southern Jutland.

While it remains unclear if all six children were exposed to asbestos, Vincentz confirmed that three definitely worked with it while the nature of the work done by the other three is still uncertain. The local labor authority informed the municipality about the situation.

According to the mayor, these are vulnerable children already facing challenges, and they have been in close contact with their families in recent weeks. Vincentz expressed her outrage, stating, “It is appalling and immoral that some people exploit children in this manner.”

Reports indicated that these children had been working at night and were allegedly paid in cash and electronics. She stressed that it is important to condemn such exploitation, marking this incident as unprecedented.

The case came to light following an inspection at the farm in Sønderborg Municipality, which resulted in 14 immediate orders from the labor authority against the company due to the youths’ illegal work and unsafe handling of hazardous materials.

Odsherred Municipality is involved because the company is based there. Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen condemned the situation, stating it makes her furious that adults appeared indifferent to these children’s well-being, hoping they do not suffer health issues from exposure to asbestos.
